Irate youth attack Tamale Metropolis Assembly

Tamale, May 23, GNA - Members of a youth group, calling themselves Action Youth Group of National Democratic Congress, on Monday vandalised the office of Tamale Metropolitan Assembly in protest against a demolition exercise the assembly carried out at the weekend.

A police source told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the main target of the mob action was the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Haruna Friday 93to teach him a lesson" for allegedly making the party unpopular in the Northern Region.

He said they warned Alhaji Friday to stop the demolishing exercise. The group who tried to enter the offices of the MCE and the Metropolitan Co-ordinator, pushed down computers, destroyed pictures on the notice board and furniture. The mob then moved to the office of the Regional Co-ordinating Council, but were kept at bay by the police. The Regional Minister, Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba condemned the action of the youth, saying he would not condone lawlessness. The Minister therefore refused to listen to the grievances of the youth and droved them out of his office. The Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh told the GNA that no arrest had been made.
