Aviation expert Captain Paul Forjoe has confirmed that the investigation into the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash that claimed eight lives was carried out in line with Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and internal protocols.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Captain Forjoe explained that the investigative team reviewed the crew’s qualifications, as well as their medical and psychological records, as part of the inquiry.

The official report was presented to President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, November 10, 2025, by a committee led by Acting Minister of Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.

The panel investigated the crash of a Harbin Z-9EH military helicopter (tail number GHF 631) that was on an anti-illegal-mining mission from Accra to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

The helicopter lost radar contact and crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District, killing all eight occupants.

Among the victims were Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence; Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology; Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, Vice-Chair of the NDC; Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; Wing Commander Peter Bafemi Anala; Flight Lieutenant Twum Ampadu; and Flight Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The final report, chaired by National Security Coordinator Abdul-Osman Razak, included contributions from the Ghana Air Force, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), and international aviation experts.

The tragedy, one of Ghana’s deadliest military air accidents, has intensified calls for a thorough review of air safety standards within the armed forces.
