Investigate properly in defiled victims' ages-Judge

Cape Coast, Oct 6, GNA - A Cape Coast circuit court Judge, Mr Kwame Essel, on Monday called on police detectives to properly investigate the correct ages of defiled victims before the cases are brought to court. He said the ages of victims are important in defilement cases.

"Some parents of defiled victims reduce the ages of their children in order to incriminate the suspects after they have failed to meet their demands.'' Mr Essel made the call when he remanded Albert Nyarko, 38-year-old trader, for defiling a 14-year-old girl.

Nyarko, who pleaded not guilty, would re-appear on October 20. Prosecuting, Inspector Hope Azasoo told the court that in June Nyarko visited the victim's family at Assin Besiako and introduced himself as a citizen of Kwesiansa, the hometown of the victim's family. They accommodated him in the same room where two girls, including the victim were sleeping.

In the night Nyarko defiled the victim and told her not to shout because he would give her money.

Inspector Azasoo said each time Nyarko came to the town he had sex with the victim until she became pregnant and when she informed him he stopped visiting the house.

Nyarko was not seen again until September 26 when he was spotted at the village and was arrested and sent to Dominase police.

He said a medical form was issued to the victim to attend hospital and a scan on the pregnancy indicated that she is 18 weeks pregnant.
