Investigate Oye Lithur’s ridiculous action – NPP guru

New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Kwabena Sarpong has asked President Mahama to launch an inquiry into the alleged misconduct by the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

Nana Oye Lithur was reported in the Wednesday edition of the Daily Guide newspaper to have threatened to cause the arrest of her Deputy, Ms Rachel Florence Appoh and Director of Social Welfare Christian Babooroh.

The alleged arrest threats were issued by the minister following the actions taken by the two officials who authorized the release of an 18-month-old baby girl to her foster parents after finding out that the girl's mother was mentally challenged.

But the two officials allegedly incurred the unbridled rage of Nana Oye Lithur because the Deputy Minister had authorized Mr. Babooroh to give the child to good Samaritans Jennifer and Shirley.

The mentally unstable woman is reportedly receiving treatment at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, but the minister, who would not hear any explanation, ordered for the return of the baby girl who has been with her foster parents for three weeks.

The minister, who is said not to be on good talking terms with her two deputies, gave them a 24-hour ultimatum on Monday evening to return the baby or else face a jail term.

Speaking on Oman FM, Kwabena Sarpong found the minister's misconduct unacceptable and "senseless", hence calling on the president to take the necessary action against her.

According to him, the minister's misconduct cast a "sneer" on the Mahama administration and further causes an adverse effect on Ghanaians.

He added: “It doesn’t make sense. Unless, there’s something else the minister is not telling us. But as reported, in fact, I’m surprised about the minister’s behavior.”
