The Ministry of the Interior has reviewed the curfew hours for the Bawku Municipality and its surrounding communities in the Upper East Region.

The new curfew hours, which takes effect on Thursday, July 31, 2025, will run from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am daily.

The decision was taken on the advice of the National Security Council and enforced through an Executive Instrument as part of ongoing efforts to curb unrest and maintain law and order in the area.

In a statement signed by the Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, the government has called on the people of Bawku to remain calm and law-abiding.

“We urge the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents to exercise restraint and use non-violent means to resolve their differences,” the statement issued on Wednesday, July 30 read.

The government acknowledged the challenges residents of the area are facing but maintained that peace and dialogue must remain the priority.

“The security situation in Bawku remains delicate. We are committed to restoring calm, but this will require the cooperation of all stakeholders,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, a total ban remains in force on the possession of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons in the Bawku Municipality and its environs.

“Any person found with arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the statement said.

The Ministry reiterated its resolve to support security personnel on the ground to ensure peace returns to the area.

“We understand the frustrations of the people, but violence is not the answer. Let us work together for the greater good of Bawku,” it added.
