Interior Minister cautions private security organizations on use of firearms.

The Minister for the Interior, Nii Okaija Adamafio today reminded operators of Private Security Companies to ensure that their personnel do not resort to the use of firearms, adding that much as government supports their operations, it will not hesitate to apply the necessary sanctions against them. The minister also cautioned the private security companies to resist the temptation to compete with the Police and other security agencies where they have not been authorized to operate. This is because some of them may see themselves as law enforcement bodies equal to the Police and that will create difficulties for them. Nii Okaija Adamafio was speaking at the inauguration of the Association of Private Security Organizations (APSOG). He said the association had arrived at a time when the task of maintenance of law and order in the country had become most challenging, adding that he sees it as one important entity with a crucial role to play in the law enforcement industry. The Minister stated that he is optimistic that depending on their standards of performance, general output of work and their sense of comportment, they will be able to persuade government to cede to other areas of responsibility in the industry.
