Intensify awareness creation efforts on the SHS multi track –system, government urged

Mr Akwasi Owusu Afrifa-Mensa, Director of Blue Ribbon Academy, has called on government to intensify its awareness creation efforts on the Senior High School (SHS) multi-track system.

He said government should strengthen the SHS multi-track system so as to enable the public to embrace the idea adding that many stakeholders are yet to comprehend the full extent of the process.

He made at the appeal during the second graduation of pupils and inauguration ceremony for the President of the school

The event was held under the theme: ‘’Basic Education, A key to A Bright Future’’.

Mr Afrifa-Mensa said the theme was appropriate because, studies have shown that for one to be successful in life, one needs basic of education. He said a strong education system broadens access to opportunities, improves health and bolsters the resilience of communities.

Mr Afrifa-Mensa said it also fuels economic growth in a way that can reinforce and accelerates these stated opportunities.

Mr Afrifa-Mensa said in providing quality education, parents and guardians are expected to do their part by paying school fees on time, buying books for their wards, creating the right environment for their children and supporting the management of the school in their daily activities.

“ l want to use this medium to appeal to the public to stop criticizing the President in relation to free SHS but rather offer suggestions aimed at strengthening the free SHS system”, adding that the Free SHS is the best system of education for our society.

He appealed to government to create an endowment fund where a percentage of worker’s salaries and contribution from organizations’ and individuals could be put together to help sustain the free SHS system.

Ms Doris Asantewa Addai, Private School coordinator, Ga West, said basic education is the key adding that “without the basic education, secondary and tertiary is impossible”.

She said everybody had a role to play to fortify the foundation of the students adding that such roles depends on parents, teachers, school managements and education officers.

She called on parents to spend time with their children on homework, since that would strengthen the child’s educational foundation.

With regards to the school management, Ms Addai said they should employ qualified teachers and create avenues for them to upgrade themselves to enhance effective teaching and learning.

She said Education Officers should conduct regular in-service training for teachers to enhance their productivity adding that intermittent supervision and monitoring of teaching and learning should be done.

Blue Ribbon Academy is located at Medie in the Ga West Municipality and was established on August 2016. It has a current population of 410 pupils.
