Intended attack on VR Minister was first in a series

Ho, June 5, GNA-The botched attack directed at the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Kofi Dzamesi by an intruder in the Ho Residency on Monday night was part of planned attacks on high profile personalities in the region. "It is just a tip of the ice-berg". Mr Dzamesi, who was out of town at the time of the incident, disclosed this at a media briefing after an emergency Regional Security Council Meeting on Wednesday.

The attacker identified as Dzikunu Agbale reportedly forced his way through the main gate to the residency broke into the Mr Dzamesi's seating room and attacked Mr Dzamesi's son and some drivers. Agbale who died in a confrontation with the Police reportedly stabbed and shot the Ho Municipal Police Commander Mr Theophilous Tetteh-Nartey in the abdomen and shoulder.

Mr. Tetteh-Nartey who was rushed to the Volta Regional Hospital in a critical condition has been flown to the 37 Military Hospital on Wednesday. Mr Dzamesi said intelligence information hinted at such attacks in the region. He blamed the incident on laxity in security, which he said would be tightened throughout the region between now and the December 2008 general elections, while thorough investigations are conducted into the incident. "This is just an eye-opener", he said. Mr. Dzamesi said Agbale to whom he was a benefactor must have been psychologically psyched up to embark on the failed attempt on his life.
