Insurance Commission Taking Steps To Prevent Fraud

Tamale, (Northern Region) 9 Nov. Mr. Samuel Appiah-Ampofo, Commissioner of Insurance, has said the National Insurance Commission is instituting measures to prevent insurance companies from defrauding their clients. He said insurance policies and savings plans have failed largely as a result of the industry's inability to supervise and control agents who misappropriate premiums. Mr. Appiah-Ampofo was commissioning the Northern regional office of the commission in Tamale on Saturday. The occasion was also used to launch the Metropolitan Insurance Company's '''Laibbaika''' plan under which members of the Moslem community can save money for their annual pilgrimage to Mecca. He said the establishment of an office in Tamale shows the commitment of government to ensure that the interest of clients of insurance companies are protected through a public watch-dog office.
