Institutions donate towards farmer's day

Accra, Nov. 30, GNA- Barclays Bank Ghana Limited on Thursday donated a cheque for 2,000 Ghana cedis in support of this year's farmers' day celebration, slated for Friday, December 7, 2007. Mrs. Margaret Mwanakatwe, Managing Director of the Bank, said the financial institution valued the positive contributions of the nation's gallant farmers towards the socio-economic growth of the country. She said community service formed part of the bank's social responsibility and decided to help put smiles on the faces of people who had contributed to national development.

Many companies also donated various items and cash in support of the celebration.

Continental Christian Traders donated 2,500 fishing nets, Poly Test Company donated 50 empty gallons, flowerpots and seedlings bags, C. Woermann Company donated cocoa spraying machine and knapsack Company and SSB Bank donated 22 spraying machines and 40 bags of fertilizers. The others were Ghana Rubber Estate Limited, which donated a double deck refrigerator, 2,500 Ghana cedis, 500 Ghana cedis for the Planning Committee of the event, Pioneering Food Canary presented can products worth 4000 Ghana cedis, Donghai Company donated fishing nets valued 500 Ghana cedis and Ghana Commercial Bank presented a cheque for 7000 Ghana cedis.

The rest are; Produce Buying Company presented 3,000 Ghana cedis worth of iron rods and a cheque for 1,000 Ghana cedis, World Marine and Blue Dolphine donated a cheque for 500 Ghana cedis each and Agrovets Limited presented 90 pieces of rosettes.

Mr. Clement Eledi, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, who received the donations, expressed government's appreciation of the efforts of all the institutions that donated towards the farmers' day.
