Installations of streetlights in Kumasi on schedule

Accra, July 17, GNA- All the outstanding works for the installation of streetlights in the Kumasi Metropolis are soon to be completed for them to be energised.

So far, Aboabo Number One area road network has been energised and the delays in making the system works in other areas has been discussed at the Assembly and brought to the notice of the contractor and the consultants.

Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development said this when Dr Edward Baffoe-Bonnie, NPP-Asokwa East asked when street lights and electrical systems installed at Aboabo Number One and Two and Oforikrom would be made operational after four years of completion.

The Minister said the project was part of the World Bank supported urban upgrading component, under the Urban Four project for Kumasi that was started in 1998 and completed in 2002.

Mr Adjei-Darko however, said there were still outstanding works including the installation of transformers, laying of low voltage cables and construction of control cubicles being handled by Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to reinforce the system.

He said these outstanding activities were completed in April 2003, and the present contractor and ECG are on site trying to complete all the minor outstanding works.
