Impostor Jailed

A 29 year old impostor, who used the name of the Osu Children's Home to collect 81,000 cedis from the public, was on Tuesday jailed six months by the Tema Community Tribunal.

Currens Oduru, a Nigerian, pleaded not guilty on charges of fraud and pretending to be a public officer.

Chief Inspector Mary Asumta, prosecuting, told the Tribunal chaired by Captain Philip Agbeyome (rtd) that on September 20, at about 1400 hours, Oduru approached a member of Ashaiman watch-dog committee with fake documents that he had been assigned from the Osu Children's Home to collect donations for them.

She said when Oduru was questioned, he brought out some more documents and after careful examination, the watch committee member became suspicious, therefore, reported the case to the Police at Ashaiman.

The prosecution said when the papers were checked it was found out that he had collected 81,000 cedis from individuals.

In his cautioned statement, the accused admitted that he was not sent from Osu Children's Home.
