The Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West, Rudolf Amoako-Gyampah, has appealed to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region and across the country to throw their support behind former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.

According to myjoyonline.com report on September 30, 2025, the MP made the call during Dr Bawumia’s campaign tour of the Central Region.

He cautioned that it would be counterproductive for the NPP to change its flagbearer after the 2024 elections, having already invested in marketing Dr Bawumia to the Ghanaian electorate.

“If we really want victory in 2028, then we have to push someone we have already marketed to Ghanaians, who had 41% when we presented him for the first time. If we drop such a person who has been marketed already and go in for an unknown face, then as a party we are not serious about victory,” Amoako-Gyampah stated.

Drawing inspiration from historical trends in the NPP and other political parties that maintained faith in their candidates, the MP encouraged the rank and file of the party to remain united behind Dr Bawumia.

“My plea to all party stakeholders is that let us continue to have faith in Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, a humble man, blessed with vision and leadership qualities,” he indicated.
