Former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Akwasi Opong-Fosu has called on the Ghanaian citizenry to reflect on the events that led to the June 4th revolution, and “strive to restore its ideals by embracing the message of probity, accountability and truth in public service and public live”.

Mr Opong- Fosu who was speaking at the maiden edition of the Revolutionary Lecture Series explained that, although the ideals of June 4th revolution led by former President Flight Lieutenant J.J Rawlings are still relevant, there are challenges regarding its acceptance in the contemporary Ghanaian political landscape.

He said “the insidious politicisation of the public service is undermining the professional conduct and ethics of the public service which are required for the adherence of probity, accountability and truth”. He added that this will further undermine the peace, stability and public services delivery in Ghana.

The former Minister said this is contributing to the re-emergence of some experiences from the period before the June 4th revolution in our modern political dispensation.

Mr. Opong-Fosu said “we are re-instituting the culture of impunity and the threat to our democratic gains, socio-economic development, peace and security”.
