Business mogul Ibrahim Mahama has once again been captured on video driving his brother, President John Dramani Mahama.

In March 2025, Ibrahim Mahama was captured driving President Mahama during the president's visit to the flood-stricken areas of Ketu South, which were severely impacted by tidal waves that submerged several communities.

The incident divided the public, with a section saying that the move was reckless, while others said that there was nothing wrong with the president being driven by his brother.

Critics raised concerns that such a lapse could potentially compromise the president's security and undermine established protocols.

On the other hand, some netizens have defended the president's actions, arguing that there was no real threat to his safety or security.

They emphasised that the gesture demonstrated humility, with the president allowing his brother to serve as his chauffeur — a move they felt reflected a level of inclusivity and freedom not seen under previous administrations.

In an interview with GhanaWeb over the matter then, security expert Col Festus Boahen Aboagye (rtd) dismissed assertions that President Mahama being driven by his brother posed a security threat.

“I don't see the security risk unless, of course, his brother is a reckless driver," he said.

However, the retired Colonel noted that the issue raised concerns about protocol rather than security.

He pointed out that it was not proper protocol for the president to be driven by his brother in a state vehicle while designated personnel were available for the task.

"This raises questions of protocol, not security. It is inappropriate for anyone who is not certified as a state official to drive the president's official vehicle. So, while it is not a security issue, people may question whether it is the right thing to do," he said.

Col Aboagye added that if an accident had occurred while Ibrahim was driving the president, it could have led to significant legal concerns regarding whether the president should have been in that situation when designated personnel were available.

But it has appeared the Mahamas have not been perturbed by the traction that followed their first chauffeuring expedition, or maybe there is nothing to be worried about, as the president has yet again been captured being driven by his junior brother.

President John Dramani Mahama, following his participation in the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in China, arrived in Accra on Thursday, October 16, 2025.

A video of the president’s arrival, which has gone viral, showed him moving to his vehicle after being received by top government officials, including the Vice President, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

When the president entered the vehicle, his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, also took to the driver's seat, and they drove off together with the presidential convoy.
