ISD embarks on campaign to explain government policies

Koforidua, May 15, GNA - The Eastern Regional Directorate of the Information Services Department (ISD) is to embark on a two-week campaign to educate people about government policies and programmes. The campaigned is targeted at reaching about 1,300 towns and villages in the Region who would receive information on information on recent government policies such as the free medical care for expectant mothers.

This came to light at a workshop on Thursday where it was announced that 60 staffers have already been trained to be deployed for the exercise.

Mr Kwadwo Affram Asiedu, Eastern Regional Minister who opened the workshop called for neutrality with regard to disseminating the information and urged the staff to refrain from engaging in partisan politics during the exercise.

He told them to present the information as it were for the benefit of the people.

"Some of the people may not like the government, but your duty is just to tell them what government has done and submit reports on their reaction to the appropriate authorities.", he said.

The Regional Information Officer, Mr Edwin Appeaning expressed the hope that operation of the Department would soon be extended to the four newly created Districts in the Region.

The Deputy Director of the ISD in charge operations, Mr J.K. Amuah, said the public expectation about ISD was high and promised that they would deliver.
