One of the most worrying issues in Ghana's general elections is the prevalence of invalid/blank votes despite continuous voter education throughout the years.

In 1992, invalid/blank votes stood at 149,811 in proportion to a voter turnout of 4,127,876 . In 1996, it reduced to 120,921 despite a much higher voter turnout which showed growth.

During the 2000 elections, it reduced further to 104,214 and then rose to 188,123 in 2004. It has since been on the rise in 2008 to 205,438 and 251,720 in 2012.
