IMF, World Bank praises won’t win you 2020 polls – Ken Agyapong warns-Akufo Addo

Member of Parliament (MP) for the Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Agyapong has advised President Akufo Addo and the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta to be wary of the ratings of the international community which praise their stewardship of the country, MyNewsGh.com reports.

According to him, the kinds of praises that win votes and maintain governments in power are those that come from the citizens and not from those who have no voting rights in Ghana.

Speaking in an interview on Net 2 TV, he said the IMF, World Bank and other positive ratings from diplomatic missions are good, but it is better for the people who have the voting rights to sing your praises.

“We in the NPP speak too much English; President Akufo Addo and the Finance Minister and all the other ministers know that those at the IMF don’t vote, those at the World Bank don’t vote, the ambassadors and diplomats don’t vote, so when you go and they tell you that we are doing well, don’t be too happy”, he said.

“What it takes to win an election,” he said is for the government to channel its energies at satisfying the poor and grassroots of the party, who demand not more than meager amounts of money to start some petty trading.

“Some women in my constituency need only GH¢200 to sell banana and peanuts and I ask myself is this something we can’t do”, he fumed, revealing he has had to appease some women in his constituency who were angered by their inability to access Micro Finance and Small Loans (MASLOC) loans with GH¢13,000 of personal funds, because the NPP risked losing their votes in the upcoming elections. Hon Kennedy Agyapong said the Finance Minister must release MASLOC money to such persons in order to get their votes; “if they do not pay back so what after all government is paying for the excesses of the collapsed banks”, he fumed.
