IGP warns personnel

Akomadan, (Ash), May 16, GNA- Mr Patrick Kwarteng Acheampong, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has warned that he would not spare any police personnel that would be found flouting the rules and regulations of the Ghana Police Service.

The IGP said the police leadership would not hesitate in applying sanctions prescribed in the police regulations and personnel who could not obey the rules were at liberty to leave the service peacefully. The IGP was addressing personnel of the service in the Akomadan district, as part of his working visit to the Ashanti region. Mr. Acheampong warned against indiscriminate firing of gunshots and chasing of vehicles to extort money from drivers by personnel and said any personnel caught in such acts would be made to faced the full rigors of the law.

The warning came against the background of an alleged meddling in chieftaincy dispute at Nkenkensu by police personnel in the town. Mr. Acheampong made a courtesy call on Nana Wiafe Akenten 111, Omanhene of the Offinso Traditional Area at his place at Offinso. The traditional ruler complained to the IGP about the alleged meddling in a chieftaincy dispute at Nkenkensu by the police in the town and called for their transfer.

Nana Akente alleged that the police in the town had refused to act on a complaint of destruction of properties purported to have been committed by some people who wanted to destool the chief of the town. He said most of the personnel had spent longer years in the town and had aligned themselves to the people to such an extend that they were unable to act to restore law and order. The IGP also visited the Kodie, Offinso, Abofour and Nkenkensu police stations.
