IGP assures Community Police of administrative support.

The Inspector-General of Police has encouraged personnel of the Community Policing Unit to remain resolute in the discharge of their constitutional mandate to protect live and properties.

Speaking at the meeting with personnel of the Unit at Tesano, Accra, today Wednesday 19th July, 2017, the IGP stated that the Police Administration shares the pain that officers of the Unit are enduring following the shooting incident leading to the death of Constable Daniel Owusu and injury to Constable Gibrill Alhassan their colleagues.

The IGP stated that the criminal act will not break the front of the Police in the fight against crime and that their colleague died for a noble and good cause. He therefore urged them to remain professional in the discharge of their duties.

The IGP also stated that the Police Administration in conjunction with government will soon set up a fund to support dependants of the personnel who die or sustain serious injuries whiles discharging their duties.

He also informed the personnel that in line with the current transformation agenda to transform the Service into first class, proposal has been made to government for the provision of modern protective equipment for all Police officers.

The Director Community Policing Unit/ACP/Mrs. Habiba Twumasi Sarpong assured the IGP that her officers will continue to discharge their duties to enhance community safety, despite the current set back the Unit has suffered.

The IGP also paid a surprise visit to Madina Police Division to assess the operational activities of the Division especially in maintaining law and order on the roads.
