The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 32-year-old suspect, Abraham Awundok, in connection with the alleged murder of Dr Jesse Amuah and his wife, Elizabeth Esi Amuah, who were reported missing in Accra in April 2026.

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, announced the arrest during a press briefing on Monday, September 7, 2026, saying it followed weeks of intelligence gathering and investigations.

"The Ghana Police Service has arrested suspect Abraham Awundok, aged 32, in connection with the murder of Dr Jesse Amuah and his wife, Mrs Elizabeth Esi Amuah, who were reported missing in April 2026.

According to the IGP, investigations established that Awindok, who worked as an errand boy for the couple, allegedly murdered them before leaving Ghana for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in April 2026.

"Following searches at their residence and information from family members, their bodies were recovered and subsequently conveyed to the Police Hospital Morgue for preservation," he stated.

Mr Yohuno said the suspect allegedly took possession of the couple’s mobile phones and private vehicle after the incident before fleeing the country.

"The suspect also took their mobile phones and private vehicle and subsequently left Ghana for the United Arab Emirates. The suspect was declared wanted through an INTERPOL Red Notice.

"On August 30, 2026, the suspect was deported to Ghana from Dubai by a team of investigators from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and INTERPOL."

The IGP said the suspect admitted to the murders during interrogation and remains in police custody as investigations continue.

The police have also secured exhibits believed to be relevant to the case as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The case centres on the disappearance of Dr Jesse Amuah and his wife, whose prolonged absence raised concerns among family members and associates and eventually prompted investigations into their whereabouts.

The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting crime and disrupting criminal networks operating in the country.

The service said it would continue to pursue individuals and groups involved in criminal activities and ensure that Ghana becomes increasingly uncomfortable for criminal syndicates.
