In a condolence message signed by its President, Engr Henry Kwadwo Boateng, the Council and Executive Committee of IET-GH extended sympathies to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government and the bereaved families.

The accident claimed the lives of, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of NADMO, Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Ghana Air Force, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, Ghana Air Force and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Ghana Air Force.

IET-GH described the deceased as “distinguished Ghanaians” whose lives reflected excellence, discipline and an unwavering commitment to public service.

Beyond mourning, the engineering body called on the President to heed the appeal of the Coalition Against Illegal Mining by taking decisive action to end the destructive practice of galamsey.

It said the loss of these gallant individuals should serve as a reminder of the urgent need for bold leadership to protect lives, safeguard the environment and secure the nation’s future.

“This moment calls for a resolute stance — one that not only addresses environmental degradation but also honours the memory of the departed by ensuring their service to Ghana was not in vain,” the statement read.
