ICU office in confusion, as main door braced

Accra, Aug. 22, GNA - The offices of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) were on Wednesday thrown into confusion when the entrance leading to the main office was braced with wood by Mr Napoleon Kpoh, outgoing General Secretary of the Union.

Mr Ben Edjah, Assistant General Secretary, told the Ghana News Agency that they reported for work in the morning only to find that Mr Kpoh had locked the entrance to the working hall.

He said he believed Mr Kpoh took the action because the Interim Management committee (IMC) that won a case at the court last Monday against Mr Kpoh and Mr Ahmed Y.B. Salifu, National Chairman, had changed the lock to the door.

Mr Edjah said Mr Kpoh worked deep into the night on Tuesday but unknown to him the locks to the main office had been changed and he did not have access to the new keys.

He said for security purposes, Mr Kpoh braced the door with wood but had no other negative intentions.

He said a memorandum had been sent to workers to take orders only from the IMC.

An Accra fast track high court on Monday restrained Mr Napoleon Kpoh Secretary General and Ahmed Y.B. Salifu, National Chairman of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), from holding themselves out as officers of the Union.

The court presided over by Mr Justice K.A. Ofori-Atta further ordered Mr Kpoh to hand over the union's vehicle. A cost of two million cedis each was awarded against Mr Kpoh and Mr Salifu.
