ICT Club to promote communication technology

Accra, Dec. 20, GNA - A community-based Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Club, "Electronic Club" to promote awareness of ICT knowledge among the youth has been inaugurated at La in Accra on Saturday with a call on parents to make special internet sites inaccessible to children to stop them from looking at pornographic materials.

Mr. Srinivas Rao, Internetworks Manager of Spacefon, who made the call in a speech read for him by Mr. Israel Annan of Ethics Foundation a non-governmental organisation also advised the club members to refrain from this practice and other computer crimes and rather take internet use as a passion for rewarding purposes to develop the community.

Mr Rao, who was speaking under the theme: "ICT and The Local Community," said internet has made pornography widely available to both adults and children and called on the E-Club to do something about it in the community-based ICT training programme.

Mr Godfried Ako-Nai, Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, who inaugurated the club suggested to the members to set up a local ICT literacy centre to train the youth on the basics of ICT to help fight illiteracy in the society.

He cautioned the La youth to be mindful of the bad influence of pornographic and other negative websites that worsen moral decadence in the community.

Mr Desmond Israel, ICT Technical Advisor of the E-Club said every individual in the La community should learn, free of charge so that the development of the community would be efficient in this information age.
