I won't stop supporting Ghana's development agenda - Nii Kotei Dzani

Dr. Nii Kotei Dzani, President of Groupe Ideal says he would use his position of influence to convince friends and other stakeholders to assist him to continue with developmental projects in the country.

Pointing out the educational sector, Dr. Dzani, who is also a Council of State Member, said he would also appeal to the necessary Institutions of State to help build the needed infrastructure that will enhance teaching and learning.

He was speaking at the 56th Speech and Prize Giving Day of the Ada Senior High School.

According to him, education is a strong tool needed for progress in every nation.

"No nation can progress without effective investment in quality education. In view of this, proper mechanisms must be put in place to support the sector," he said.

Dr. Nii Kotei Dzani, through his constant support for education and other activities including reaching out to the poor and vulnerable, was honoured at the event.

A citation, which was presented to him by authorities of the school eulogized him for his numerous support to the school in diverse ways over the years which include building a fencewall for the school to protect its land, an ultra-modern six unit classroom block with toilet facilities, staff common room and also for the several scholarships for needy but brilliant students.

Dignitaries including the Paramount Chief of Ada Traditional Area, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, the DCE for the area, Former Education Minister, Alexander Tetteh-Enyo and other Representatives from the academia were there to mark the event.

In her report, the Headmistress of the school, Valencia Quame, said lack of some facilities in the school such as modern toilet, proper Administration block, and an Assembly hall has affected their activities.

On water issues facing the school, Mrs Valencia Quame fears an outbreak of diseases could soon hit the school as students sometimes resort to drinking from the River Volta when the only water source in the school breaks down. She therefore appealed to other benevolent individual to assist with a water storage facility. She says water has been a major challenge facing the school recently.

"The school has a current population of 2, 308 but we have only one source of water here, which is the tap water."

She added that “students have to go outside the premises of the school to fetch water from the Volta River, which could be dangerous to the health of users."

Mrs Quame however recognized the efforts played by some key stakeholders in the school and community over the past years. Specifically pointing out to the President of Groupe Ideal, Dr. Nii Kotei Djani, for his tremendous efforts in developing the school in diverse ways.

The event was on the theme: Ensuring quality and holistic education in a globalised economy - the role of stakeholders.

Speaking on the theme, the Guest Speaker, who is also an Academician, Dr. Ofoe Canacoo, outlined a number of tools needed to boost education in the country. He said the theme has been broadly written to meet the vision of the Education Ministry, UNESCO and other stakeholders.

According to him all stakeholders must play their part to support quality education in the country.

"The Education Ministry has a big role to play towards this effect as it represents government's vision in the sector,” he said

He stressed that “Education in the country should never be politicized by any government, chief or other influential persons."
