The presidential nominee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has said he has no intentions of meddling in the Abudu-Andani chieftaincy rumpus in Dagbon should he win the December 7 polls to become president.
Mr. Akufo-Addo made the promise on Monday when he paid courtesy calls on the Regent of Dagbon, Kampukuya Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani at his palace in Yendi, and also the Regent of the Abudu Royals, Boling-Lana Abdulai Mahamadu at his palace in Yendi.
The visit was in the spirit of Dagbon’s reconciliation and unity efforts. The two royal families have had intermittent feuds over the Dagbon skin following the murder of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II more than a decade ago.
Assuring the two royal families of his neutrality in the feud, Mr. Akufo-Addo said: “I am going to be a father for all in Ghana and I have no business siding with either Abudus or Andanis in Dagbon. My major priority is to develop Ghana for the benefit of all.”
“Have confidence in me to help reconcile the chiefs and people of Dagbon to catch up with the rest of the country,” he told the two gates.
He promised to renew the long-standing relationship between him and the Regent of Dagbon as the case was with the late Dagbon overlord, Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II.
