The leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai Odike has brushed off reports of his sacking from the party, saying he will not give those going rounds with such stories any attention, MyNewsGh.com reports.
He says his focus is on becoming the president of Ghana on the ticket of the UPP, and so he will not descend into gutters with pigs.
At a press conference in Kumasi last Friday, a gentleman who claimed to be the Acting General Secretary of the UPP, Abubakar Kuoru, announced that Mr Odike has been sacked from the party.
Mr Kuoro alleged that, the founder of the UPP had embezzled the funds of the party and has failed to make available for use for the party’s activities, some vehicles belonging to the party.
“On 12th March 2019, we had a press conference and we invited him and he refused to come and secondly he has wantonly dissipated our funds”, Kuoro said at the presser.
“We gave him party cars from our party financiers, we don’t know where the cars are and he’s refusing to produce the cars, and he has also been given money to help us run our political activities and our policies [but] as of now, there is not GHS1 in our coffers. He has drained all the coffers. I mean, which political party in Ghana is owned by one man. If that’s the case, then JJ will come for his NDC.” He added
But reacting to the story on Kumasi-based Angel FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com on Tuesday, Mr Akwasi Addai Odike said the said Abubakar Kuoro is not known to him or in the party in any way and that he had been hired to soil his reputation.
“I swear to God and by the stool of the Asantehene, I have never set my eyes on that gentleman; I don’t know him and has not met him anywhere; ask him to produce his party card if he is a member or an executive of the UPP”, Odike noted.
“I’m focused on becoming the president of Ghana, so I will not descend into the gutter with pigs; the UPP belongs to me and I have the full recognition of the Electoral Commission to that effect, so those rented detractors should continue to make noise; I will not pay them any attention”, he said.
