I will win back the coastal line votes - NPP former MP says

Accra, Nov. 13, GNA - Mr Ishmael Ashietey, former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Tema West, has appealed to the electorate to vote for him as the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the party. He said he had what it takes to win back all seats lost to the National Democratic congress (NDC) along the coast.

Mr Ashietey said his decision to contest the elections stemmed from calls by the opinion leaders and the youth in constituency to lead the NPP to victory in the region in the next election.

He told the GNA in an interview that "my background as coming from a fishing community as well as a former minister of the Ministry of Fisheries gives me an added advantage to take the chair".

He said the situation of the NPP in the region left much to be desired due to lack co-ordination among the youth creating the impression that the NPP was not active.

Mr Ashietey said during his tenure at the fisheries he came out with strategies that won most of the seats in some constituencies. He said his primary concern when given the nod would be to reposition the party to make it more attractive to the Ga-Dangmes. "There is a serious need to resource and train our foot soldiers to enable them deliver." "It is important to recognize the effort of everyone in the party irrespective of the one position he or she occupies and this will largely enhance the future of the party", he said.
