The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has rejected a request by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, to engage in a public debate over the Bank of Ghana’s 2025 annual report.

Gyamfi had explained during his appearance on TV3’s Key Points that the Bank of Ghana’s GH¢15.6 billion loss was disclosed in a robust audit conducted by KPMG, which he described as transparent and credible.

However, Oppong Nkrumah later responded on Facebook, insisting that the losses were significantly higher and claiming that the Bank of Ghana recorded a total loss of GH¢34.9 billion.

The issue has since sparked a back-and-forth on social media, with Gyamfi challenging the legislator to a public debate to clarify the matter.

Oppong Nkrumah, however, swiftly declined the invitation, arguing that Gyamfi is not the appropriate person to debate the issue, describing him as a party communicator seeking to defend the government’s image rather than a financial expert.

He stated that the Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, is the proper official to respond to his claims and said he would be willing to debate the Finance Minister instead.

“The Bank of Ghana’s 2025 accounts are not the responsibility of GoldBod’s CEO or the NDC’s National Communications Officer. They belong to the Minister of Finance, who must present them to Parliament. Since you are aware of the mess you have caused, you have chosen to evade official probes and hide behind sponsored platforms where you can have a field day.

“If a debate is necessary, Ato Forson should step forward. He has the responsibility, integrity, and competence to do so. Not you, my friend. Until he does, answers are only required from you in a Parliamentary inquiry on the record and under oath. Stop wasting our time and show up. If you are as confident in your case as your posts suggest, be the loudest voice in your party today demanding that the inquiry I initiated on March 27 be allowed to proceed. Then we will see who is telling the truth and who is lying,” he wrote in a post on X on May 10, 2026.
