He indicated that the thugs were heavily armed with Pump action guns.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, October 18, 2025, he wrote, “I am formally requesting that the President, the Chief of Staff, the National Investigation Bureau coordinator (NIB), BNI, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) provide me with emergency protection effective immediately.
“This evening, around 3:30, I was the target of an assassination attempt involving approximately 100 land guards, bikers, and three vehicles loaded with land guards, most of whom were armed with pump-action guns.”
Atubiga indicated that, for now, he will not disclose the identities of those he believes are the ‘alleged masterminds’ behind the incident.
“The identities of the alleged masterminds behind this attempt are being withheld pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation. Fortunately, I escaped unharmed, thanks to divine intervention. The incident culminated in the apprehension of three suspects by the Ghana Police Service, following a swift response from my security team and an expertly executed maneuver by my driver, which enabled us to evade the hail of gunfire,” Atubiga continued.
“I am still grappling with the fact that certain individuals would orchestrate such a heinous plot to eliminate me. The details of this incident are available for viewing on GH 1 TV, I have been just alerted by someone. I am yet to verify. The incident occurred at the Celebrity Golf Course at Sakumono Estates,” he added.
Stephen Atubiga explained that about three individuals among the alleged armed thugs claimed to be affiliated with National Security.
He insisted that his life and safety are at risk.
“The three apprehended individuals in this video claim to be from National Security Blue Gate. Further updates will follow, but I must emphasize that I am not safe for now, and I am compelled to bid farewell to all Ghanaians for the time being, in the event that I do not survive the night. I have always cherished my connection with Ghana and taken pride in being Ghanaian first. I love you all. It has been a pleasure being among you. I have always believed in Ghana and am proud to be Ghanaian. Video below of some suspects arrested at Sean, more to follow,” he concluded.
