A renowned Political Scientist Professor Ransford Gyampo has revealed that he once served as a house help when he completed his first degree and was homeless.
According to him, he had no place to sleep because his stepsister denied him the right to live at his late father’s house.
“My father’s wife didn’t want me in the house so at a point I had to sleep in their garage. I’ll leave the house early and head to the political science department and stay there till late. I became a house-help after University. I had a stepsister who had monopolized my father’s house and didn’t want us to stay in the house.
“Our mother had to runaway with us because she feared the worst. My mother rented an apartment for 9 years and after sometime; the landlord said he’s not renting out the place again. That was when I had to leave with my father’s friend as a house help,” he told Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday.
The Legon lecturer also urged students to be confident in their potential because he merely an average student until he decided to turn his life around.
“It was when I sat down to read the ‘A’ level myself that I started getting good grades. Growing up, I was always a weak student. So I always tell my students not to wait till the last day to start reading. They should cultivate the habit of always reading”.
