Dancehall act Shatta Wale has revealed he walked away from active music-making three years ago, stating that business is now his primary occupation.
Speaking to Bola Ray in an interview ahead of his flight to the United Kingdom for his ShattaFest UK event, the musician opened up about his finances, his retirement from music, and the possibility of a future in politics.
He also shed light on his ongoing campaign for fairer treatment of artistes in Ghana's music industry.
"Sometimes people see me shouting on social media and they think I am frustrated. No. I have money but I don't want to see my colleagues or the upcoming artistes suffer," he said.
He described the campaign as a calling rather than a grievance.
"I think it's a godly fight. Thank God it wasn't a violent one but a verbal way just to echo my thoughts out,” he said.
When asked if he believes he has enough money to retire, Shatta Wale confirmed that he has effectively stepped back from active music-making.
"I retired from music three years ago. I'm doing business now," he said.
He cited his ventures, including Hotwav, Shaxi, and Tuesday Market, as his primary focus.
Asked whether he would pursue public office, Shatta Wale said he would consider it when the time is right.
"All in time. When it's time and the people want me to pursue that, why not? I believe I've done a lot for the country and Ghanaians have seen how patriotic I am. I want to see every Ghanaian win," he said.
He added that he has always felt a sense of national duty that goes beyond entertainment.
"I always feel I have a role to play in the country,” he explained.
