Former Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, has stated that he is still in shock over the sudden death of his successor, Dr Edward Omane Boamah.
According to him, he never imagined delivering a tribute to someone who took over from him at the Ministry of Defence.
“I am still in shock, I knew Dr Omane Boamah in 2000 when he contested my cousin for a parliamentary seat. They were the leading contenders, and my cousin lost to him. We have been friends since then, though not many people know that side of us.
"I never thought for once that I will be giving tribute to somebody who I handed the baton to; I'm still in shock," he recounted in a Joy News interview on Thursday, August 14, 2025.

Dominic Ntiwul described the late Minister of Defence as a leader who tackled issues with precision.
"He's not that type of politician who likes to drag things, that's what I saw in working with him," he added.
The former defence minister further recounted working with Dr Omane Boamah during the transition period, where they collaborated on security matters.

"We got closer when he was a part of the transition team and literally, he was the one who I worked with on most security aspects. I was chairing from our side and he was also chairing for his side; so we were the co-chairs and so we worked essentially together," he added.
Dr Omane Boamah was one of the eight (8) persons who perished in a fatal helicopter crash at Sikaman on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
A state burial will be held at the Black Star Square in Accra to honour the 8 heroes.
