I never envisaged being a lawyer - Nana Addo

The Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has stated that he never envisaged of becoming a Lawyer.

According to him, he never thought of practising law in his youthful days.

‘It was not part of my plans to be a lawyer because my father had carved a niche for himself in that regard; he was wining lots of big cases in Ghana, I didn’t want to give the impression of ridding on my father’s glory… So for a very long time, It wasn’t part of my educational plans to study law, when I went to the University, I didn’t do law, I studied Economics.

Nana Addo who turns 72 years today, Tuesday, explained that he was motivated and fascinated by the sheer power, eloquence and fluency of a certain lawyer.

‘There was a famous case some years ago, I went to the court for the hearing and one of the lawyers was on top of issues. Seeing that man’s performance in court that day I was motivated to be a lawyer, I took a decision to study law, so I went abroad to study law,’ he narrated to Host of Anopa Kasapa, Fiifi Banson.

Nana Addo returned to Ghana in 1962 to teach at the Accra Academy before going to the University of Ghana in 1964 to read Economics, after studying O- Level and A- Level in England.

After graduating as an Economist, he went on to read law in the UK and was called to the English Bar (Middle Temple) in July 1971 and the Ghana Bar in 1975.
