The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has responded to veteran satirist, Kwaku Sintim-Misa, following his criticism of him over claims attributed to the MP regarding the upcoming by-election in Akwatia.
Speaking on an edition of the KSM Show aired on August 2, 2025, the lawmaker, Rev Ntim Fordjour, appearing as a guest, stated that his remarks had been misreported.
Setting the record straight, he stated that his comments were taken out of context and misrepresented to portray him as inciting violence.
He clarified that he was, in fact, preaching against any form of bloodshed in the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
"When I heard that you had made some comments, I said 'I'm sure for the benefit of you not given the full video, that is why you'd draw that conclusion because I know you mean no malice... You would know that I was preaching against bloodshed,” he clarified.
The lawmaker further stated that his calls were for decisive action to be taken to prevent such occurrences from happening again.
He referenced instances of electoral violence in past years that appear to have gone unaddressed.
"I said we don't want bloodshed but we have to do what will prevent that bloodshed. If we leave things the way they've been happening from the past, we have had many elections that have been characterised by violence. For how long must that continue? How long must Ayawaso Wuogon continue?
“How long should Talensi continue, Techiman continue and many other places and many instances when we cite these instances? We should not cite them to equalise as politicians, not at all. We should cite them to draw lessons from them, to learn from them, but put in the action today that will prevent the next Ablekuma North incident from happening,” he added.
Ntim Fordjour also raised concerns about the alarming rise of political vigilantism in the country, saying that his comments were meant to demand action to serve as a deterrent to others.
“Ablekuma North was only 19 polling stations, and so if the kind of violence we saw there was condoned and we don't take action (sic). It wouldn't take a day or two to arrest those people and prosecute them to send a signal that if any politician comes to hire you for such a violent enterprise, you will be arrested and go to jail.
“And so, everybody will stay home and allow elections to go on peacefully so, that's the point I raised that let us leave this in the back; we don't want bloodshed. We are sitting on a time bomb on political vigilantism so they clearly misquoted me. They put a propaganda spin on it, some took the video, twisted it, but I can never call for bloodshed. I always preach peace.”
KSM, also on the same show, acknowledged the MP’s clarification.
