Founder of Heaven Way Champion International Ministry, Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa or Mama Pat, has stated that she was in denial when her 15 years sentence was pronounced in court.
Speaking after she walks free after serving her 1-year sentence following a massive reduction of her previous 15-year jail term in an interview with Ghana Prisons TV and shared by Sika Official on X on March 3, 2026, she narrated her 'numbing disbelief' at the development of her case.
She particularly shared moments and emotions she felt in the courtroom before her legal team successfully fought for the massive reduction of her sentence.
“I asked myself that what have I done wrong to be incarcerated. The day they announced at the court that I was to serve for 15 years, I refused to accept the fact that I will serve the 15 years sentence. I believed at that point that only prayers and Bible would help me. If you read Acts chapter 12, Peter was thrown in prison, the brethren prayed for him, he prayed and God had mercy and came through for him. Again in Acts 16 Paul and Silas were thrown in jail for preaching the word of God, like in my case.
“So, I studied the word and asked myself what they did for God to come through for them. So, I read the bible to ascertain what they did to gain their freedom…and I came to the realisation that the word was used to create the earth, why can’t God use the same word to overturn my sentence…,” she shared.
She narrated how her total dependence on the word of God (the scriptures) encouraged her during the difficult time.
“I threw a challenge to God that Jonah sinned but he prayed to God and He [God] showed him mercy, Nebuchadnezzar suffered same but God gave him a second chance to rule again. Hezekiah was told by prophet Isaiah to prepare his will as he was to die, but when he prayed, God extended his life by 15 years in the Word of God. So, I threw a challenge to God…Elijah during his encounter with the prophets of Baal called on God and said He [God] should show up for all to know that He is indeed God…,” she recounted.
According to her the inspiration she drew from the experiences of Peter, Paul and Silas among other biblical characters assured her that when she relies on God, she would make it out of prison.
Nana Agradaa speaks on fear and doubt after 15-year prison sentence
Background: Case and Sentence Reduction
Agradaa was convicted on July 3, 2025, by an Accra Circuit Court on multiple charges, including charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence, linked to her promotion of a so-called money doubling scheme at the services of her Heaven Way Champion International Ministry in Weija, Greater Accra Region.
In that broadcast style service, she was accused of promising miraculous financial returns in exchange for money paid by congregants, promises that did not materialise and led to complaints from participants.
The trial court initially handed her a 15-year sentence with hard labour, a ruling that drew widespread public debate.
However, on February 5, 2026, the Amasaman High Court upheld her conviction but reviewed the punishment, ruling that the original sentence was excessive and disproportionate under the circumstances.
The High Court reduced her prison term to 12 months and imposed a fine of 200 penalty units (equivalent to about GH¢2,400).
The revised sentence has been running from the date of her conviction, meaning she became eligible for remission under standard policy and is now set for release on March 3, 2026.
Her lawyer, Richard Asare Baffour, has emphasised that the remission and release are in accordance with normal prison regulations, not special favours, and are uniformly applied to prisoners who qualify in good conduct.
Agradaa’s case has attracted significant public attention, both for its legal implications and its social resonance, given her profile as a controversial media personality and former traditional priestess turned evangelist.
