I’m yet to be cleared officially – Deputy EC Chair

Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Georgina Opoku–Amankwaah says she is yet to be cleared by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) on the EC missing fund.

Speaking with Bright Kwesi Asempa on Onua Fm morning show on Tuesday, Madam Georgina Opoku–Amankwaah said she has been in Kumasi over the weekend and the news about her clearance by EOCO came through the media, adding that “as we speak, I’m on my way from a function I attended in Kumasi and nobody has informed me of anything like that”.

Three top officials of the Ghana’s electoral body, Madam Georgina Opoku-Amankwaah, Kwaku Owusu Agyei-Larbi and Joseph Kwaku Asamoah, have been the subject of investigation by the EOCO with regards to a GH¢480,177.87 missing Endowment Fund of staff of the Electoral Commission.

However, the Daily Guide newspaper reported on Tuesday that the three have been cleared of any wrong doing, quoting a correspondence from the Attorney General’s office suggesting that they are innocent but, two other officials at the EC could rather be charged.

Nonetheless, Madam Opoku-Amankwaah said she has always known that she would be cleared.

“Even my families know that I have done nothing wrong. They know who I am and I am thankful to the Lord that the truth is finally out, if what I’m hearing in the media is true.”

Asked how the working relationship between herself and the Chairperson of the EC will be, going forward, she exclaimed “ohh, I was employed by somebody to work and that is what I have been doing. The fact that we are working in the same organization, does not necessarily mean we should be friends”

I will wait for the official communication from the EOCO then Ghanaians will soon know of my next line of action, she stressed.
