A video of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has resurfaced online, showing him making threats to President John Dramani Mahama over the fight against illegal mining.

In the video that went viral on social media on October 9, 2025, amid Wontumi's legal tussle with the state over his alleged involvement in illegal mining, Chairman Wontumi was seen on his television station, stating that no one could stop him from conducting his activities at the Akonta mining site.

Specifically addressing President John Dramani Mahama, Chairman Wontumi noted that the president seized his 500 excavators and 400 pickup trucks, alleging that despite efforts by the NDC government to bring his business to a halt in 2013, he remained unaffected.

"In 2013, you collapsed my business. You seized my 500 excavators and 400 pickups. Aren't you afraid, Mahama, that despite what you did to me, I am still holding onto my captainship?

"He said that when he comes to power again, he would collapse Akonta mining. Isn't he afraid of me?" he said.

Chairman Wontumi, in the video, was further seen noting that he is not afraid of the president and can not be intimidated by him or the military.

"When you were president before you came here (Kumasi), the national security had to negotiate with me before you entered. Do you think Wontumi is a small team?

"I am not afraid of him. If he is looking for someone to scare him, that is not Wontumi. I dare him to stand face to face with me, even if his soldiers can not do anything to me," he added.
