The Member of Parliament for Builsa South Dr. Clement Apaak has told Rainbow Radio that he is personally pleased that President Akufo-Addo has named his cabinet.
The former presidential staffer had described as unhealthy the failure of the president to name his cabinet four months into his administration.
The delay according to him, did not speak well of President Akufo-Addo who tout himself as a man who upholds the constitution of Ghana.
The legislator told Kwame Tutu in an interview that, this has been a personal crusade and so I am personally pleased that the president has deemed it fit to communicate the composition of his cabinet as enshrined in Article 73 of the constitution.
He said, it is not for nothing that the constitution says; there shall be a cabinet which shall consist of the President, Vice President and not less than 10 or more than 19 Ministers of State.’’
He said, ‘’this was the reason why I was pushing, because now that we know the 19 Ministers who compose the cabinet, we now that they are advising the president, and so when something goes wrong, we know those to hold accountable.’’
In the view of Dr. Apaak, this is good for our democracy and will promote transparency and accountability. President Nana Akufo-Addo yesterday [Tuesday] named nineteen persons to form his cabinet.
The Cabinet list was submitted to the Floor of Parliament and announced by the Speaker of the House, Professor Michael Oquaye.
The Cabinet is constituted in conformity with Article 76 (1) of the 1992 constitution.
