The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin Constituency, Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi has denied being behind the removal of over two hundred names of party delegates from the constituency register.
Tension is brewing in the constituency as some polling station chairmen led by one Osei Assibey accused the MP of removing their names ahead of the party’s extraordinary conference in its stronghold of Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti Region.
In a text message sent to mynewsgh.com’s reporter Kwabena Danso-Dapaah in response to the allegations, the lawmaker denied the claims stating he has no knowledge to that effect.
“I have no role in the party’s mandate of auditing our Polling Stations prior to Election 2016,that is the job of the Electoral Area Co-coordinator”, he stated.
“Both National and Regional Secretariats have the updated audited Polling Station lists as mandated by the party. The Constituency Chairman has a copy which was handed over to him at a meeting in July at the National Party Headquarters. The MP does not compile and audit Polling Station Registers, it is the job of Constituency Secretariat and the Electoral Area Co-coordinators. National Chairman FF Antoh trained all 47 Constituencies in May 2016 in Auditing Polling Stations, the Parliamentary Candidate, Chairman, Secretary, Organizer et al were all present at Hasta Lodge instigating executives in the constituency to expunge over two hundred names of party”, Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi revealed.
“The Constituency Album has served its usefulness in electing Regional, National, Presidential and Parliamentary Candidates. The party is now compiling fresh Polling Station Registers for Election of all party officers. Subin had 128 Polling Stations as of June 2015, the EC has since increased it by 19 bringing it to 147,the party fielded Polling Agents and Executives during Election 2016”, the MP pointed out.
