I'm On Good Terms With Rawlings - JAK

President Kufuor has expressed surprise at rumours that he and former President Jerry Rawlings are not on good terms. “As far as I am concerned, we have nothing against each other. If he thinks he has something against me then he can come and tell me and we will trash our problems out.”

The President was answering a question posed by a member of the public at a People’s Assembly organized on Monday. According to him, the fact that he does not get opportunity to meet the ex-President often does not mean that they are at loggerheads.

In another development, President Kufuor will soon append his signature to the National Reconciliation Bill to become law. The President sees the debate that erupted from limiting the periods to be investigated to military regimes as unnecessary.

This is because the bill provides a ‘window of opportunity’ for those who suffered under regimes not included in the bill, to make their grievances heard. The Minority in Parliament declined to vote in the final stage of bill because the Majority sidelined their proposed amendments. But President Kufor says he sees nothing wrong with the bill as it was passed.
