I’ll not travel with the team to Mozambique - Afriyie

The vice President of the Ghana Football Association George Afriyie who doubles up as the management committee chairman has confirmed he will not be travelling with the team to Mozambique for their 2017 AFCON qualifier.

The team will fly out to Maputo after playing the OS Mambas in Accra on Thursday in search of early qualification to next year's Africa Cup of nations to be staged in Gabon.

Reports are rife in the media that the vice President of the Ghana Football Association is playing it safe with regards to instructions by the President’s white paper that prohibits him from having anything to do with the national team again.

But Afriyie who confirms he will not be traveling to Mozambique says he will not be doing so because there are other pressing issues to be handled here at home.

“I will not be travelling to Mozambique yes but it has got nothing to do with the white Paper,” George Afriyie told Accra based Happy FM

“I have worked in the capacity of chairman of the Black Stars in recent times and even had to rush and come and introduce the new Minister to the team.”

“So there is nothing of that sort but if you have an able assistant sometimes you have to allow him work.”

“There are some things I have to do here and just to put it on record that this is not the first time I will not be travelling with the team despite being the chairman of team's management committee.”
