'I know the weight of loss' – Patricia Appiagyei comforts bereaved families

Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Patricia Appiagyei, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed eight lives in Adansi Sikaman on August 6, 2025.

During a condolence visit to the home of one of the victims on Friday, August 8, Appiagyei stressed the importance of standing with the bereaved families in a bid to show solidarity in their time of grief.

Speaking to GhanaWeb, Appiagyei admitted how overwhelmed she was by the tragedy, calling for support and strength for the wives of the departed souls in these hard time.

"It is right that we come around and commiserate with the family and let them know that we share in their sorrow. Especially the wife that is left behind. I'm a woman and I know how it feels like to experience tragedies of this magnitude. I really can't tell you exactly how I feel, but there's a lot going through my heart, my head, everywhere. It is a very sad day and we pray that it will never happen again. But we know that death is a necessary end," she stated.

Reflecting on the reality of life and death, Appiagyei said, "Death is a necessary end and it will come when it will come. And everybody has a way of meeting his or her death. And that's what has happened. We only pray for the good Lord to accept their souls and may they rest in perfect peace."

The crash, which has thrown the nation into mourning, claimed the lives of eight individuals, including prominent public figures and military personnel.

A state funeral has been scheduled by President John Dramani Mahama for Friday, August 15, 2025, at Black Star Square in Accra.
