'I heard a big bang' – Eyewitness recounts helicopter crash that killed Omane Boamah, Murtala

An eyewitness has described the horrifying moment a Ghana Airforce helicopter crashed in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Speaking to the media shortly after the crash, he recounted; “I was in my farm when I heard the sound of a helicopter. It was so loud. The aircraft was flying unusually low, moments later, I heard a big bang. I rushed to the scene to see what had happened. The helicopter had crashed and burst into flames. The passengers were burnt beyond recognition."

The Ghana Airforce Z9 helicopter had taken off from Accra at 0912 hours en route to Obuasi but lost radar contact shortly after.

According to a statement by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the helicopter was carrying eight people, three crew members and five passengers, all of whom have been confirmed dead.
