I have a ‘weak heart’- Rawlings

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has admitted he can no longer contain the kind of pressure he used to due to a ‘weak heart’ following old age that has caught up with him.

“I am sure you all recall I had a bit of a heart problem; I am still nursing that heart and living on that is why I cannot take the kind of pressure we could all take when we were younger” he disclosed recently.

The former president has been tight-lipped over his health status until in Wa during a courtesy call on the Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV on the eve of the June 4 celebrations where he publicly spoke about it for the first time.

“I would very much have wished I could be coming more often because I have so many family members here but health has not been the best”.

Mr Rawlings who has come under a barrage of attacks for blaming the party’s defeat at December 7, 2017, polls to sickening greed, selfishness and corruption is also advocating for an overhaul of its current crop of executives.

But a Political Science Lecturer with University of Ghana (UG) Dr. Alidu Seidu said, the NDC did not lose elections only because of greed and corruption urging the party sit up and reflect.

He added that view a total overhaul of the current executives will not be a panacea to restore the lost values of June 4 as claimed by the founder but proposed education.

“The whole concept of probity and accountability the former President wants them to have he can inculcate in them. …it is all about educating them about the values of June 4 uprising”

“Those who do not know educate them…and those pretending just remind them. If you bring a new leadership they will pretend and work to benefit themselves”, he disclosed.
