I felt proud when Akufo-Addo invited me to come home – David Adjaye

David Adjaye has told Bola Ray he was excited and proud when President Akufo-Addo personally extended an invitation to him to come home and help Ghana with his unique expertise in architecture.

The extraordinary architect who designed Ghana’s National Cathedral disclosed the President had seen his work at a museum abroad and was marveled at the depth of quality and urged him to come back to Ghana and help.

“What brought me back is the commissions that I was given by this administration. They basically saw my work at the museum being celebrated everywhere and they wondered how it is that I was not doing it in my own country and I said ‘I have not been asked yet”.

When asked by Bola Ray how he felt when the President invited him, Mr. Adaye said: “So proud, it is so proud to have your work acknowledge by your country but also by the leader of the country”.

He said once the invitation came to him, he felt the desire and responsibility to come back and let Ghanaians benefit from his skills.

His Recent works include the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo and the Skolkovo Moscow School of Management, completed in 2010. He also designed the interior of New York City’s Spyscape museum.
