I don't trust the Special Prosecutor, he doesn’t know what he is doing – Dr Tony Aidoo

Leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Tony Aidoo, has expressed his displeasure over the failure of the state prosecutorial agencies to successfully prosecute any person for engaging in acts of corruption.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on Thursday, July 17, 2025, Dr Aidoo, a former Senior Presidential Aide, took issue with the Office of the Special Prosecutor and its head, Kissi Agyebeng, especially.

According to him, the Special Prosecutor, Agyebeng, does not seem to know what he is doing and only makes big public pronouncements.

“So far, you’ve had the Attorney General, in quest for transparency, coming out to reveal steps that he is taking to bring certain persons to book. But so far, we haven’t seen any prosecution yet, and I don’t trust the Special Prosecutor. He talks big, he talks small, and he doesn’t know what he is doing,” he said.

The statesman asserted that the Special Prosecutor's handling of corruption cases looks more like attempts to shield the people implicated, citing the case of former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah.

He reiterated that Kissi Agyebeng, till date, has not been able to convict anybody, despite the numerous press conferences he has held on the cases he is handling.

“He is a shame; is he protecting them? Look at the mess he made with the Cecilia Dapaah case. He has never succeeded in any prosecution on corruption, so what are we paying him for?”

“If you build up your case, the judges will not ignore your evidence. But if you fail to present convincing evidence, then that is what you are going to get from the judgment. I don’t think he is building his cases well; he talks too much. I will advise him to talk less and do more,” he added.
