I don’t regret leaving the BBC to join the GFA - Saanie Daara

Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Saanie Daara says he has no regrets about his decision to leave the British Broadcasting Corporation and take up a job at the Ghana FA.

The renowned journalist said despite the circumstances surrounding the exit of Kwesi Nyantaky who convinced him to join the FA, he looks back at his days at the FA with pride and nostalgia.

Speaking in an interview with Ghanaweb on Sports Check with Daniel Oduro, the Foreign Press Association Media Award winner said at the time he took up the FA job, there was nothing more for him to achieve and challenge him in the media space.

He said he finally decided to come back home to work with the GFA after the sixth time of asking.



“At a point I felt that there was nothing to achieve or challenge me anymore at the BBC. I had reached the very top, won awards and also learnt a lot from some of the greatest journalists in the world because the BBC is the greatest media house in the world. Anyone who performs there it’s a blessing and I felt that I needed a new challenge.

Saanie Daara joined the BBC in 2004 from Accra base Choice FM where for the preceding eight years he worked as the BBC's Africa Football website correspondent as well as hosting radio programs; Fast Track, Focus on Africa and Network Africa's sports segments until 2012.

He said, “Let me put it on record that it was the sixth time I had been asked to work with the federation and I said let me venture and help.”

Sannie was also a commentator for the opening and final matches at the first World Cup in Africa held in South Africa in 2010.
