I didn't force anyone to make me Black Stars captain – Asamoah Gyan replies Tagoe

Gyan is Ghana Gyan is Ghana

Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, Asamoah Gyan has insisted that he never forced any authority of the national team to give him the captain armband.

The 31-year-old striker was named skipper of the Black Stars in 2013 to succeed John Mensah.

However, one time Ghana Premier League top scorer, Prince Tagoe was believed in an interview that the former Liberty Professionals striker does not have what it takes to be named Black Stars captain.

But the Kayerispor attacker rubbished such claims and has insisted that he never forced anyone to name him captain of the Black Stars.

“I want him (Prince Tagoe) to understand that I never forced anyone to name me the captain of the Black Stars,” he told Angel FM.

“I didn’t go to anyone, they decided to name me the captain in their own will.

“I believe they saw my capabilities and decided to name me as the Black Stars captain.

The Kayserispor forward qualified and captained Ghana at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and also led the team to reach the finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon/Equatorial Guinea.

Reports have already emerged that Asamoah Gyan will quit from international duties after the 2019 AFCON in Cameroon.
