Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings has slammed persons he describes as ‘latter-day party officials’ of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) who have made it their job to denigrate him for criticizing the wrongs in the party when it was in power.

According to him, many of these ‘political novices’ who want to excite their paymasters do not know the countless times his wise counsel to the party was ignored and treated with contempt.

“I cannot lay claim to the position of party founder and spend time criticizing another party or institution when my own house is burning. Removing the log in my own eyes is the only way to legitimize my right to expose the speck in another,” Ex-President Rawlings said while addressing a gathering at the 36th anniversary of the 31st December Revolution in the Volta Regional capital, Ho on Sunday.

He charged members the NDC to rebuild the party on the ideals of the 31st December revolution or risk being in political oblivion.

According to ex-President Rawlings, the NDC’s defeat at the last elections was self inflicted as result of sheer acts corruption perpetuated by some appointees.

As such, he wants party faithful to actively participate the reorganization process and elect persons with high strength of character to lead the party.
